The perspectives in this 7-day intensive residential retreat may startle those unfamiliar with physicians and researchers such as Dossey, Myss, Pert, Siegel and Hellinger. Their work is currently revolutionising the approach to all ‘dis-ease’, including cancer. Clearly the medicine of the future will be very different ...
Mind, emotion, meditation, prayer, spirituality and other forms of ‘inner work’ turn out to be at least as important in handling illness as diagnostics, drugs and surgery. It is not a question of ‘either-or’ but of ‘both-and’.
In essence, a truly holistic approach can shift our perspective of illness as an undeserved obstacle to ‘normal’ life; we begin to recognise and acknowledge that its deeper purpose may be to accelerate our growth and nudge us (sometimes, not so gently!) towards wholeness and to live a life of greater authenticity.
Given this background, participants can look specifically at the meaning which cancer brings to our world. A range of strategies - relevant to both the individual experiencing cancer and their primary carer - will be suggested and practiced. Participants will learn new concepts and powerful techniques from a wide range of transformational practices such as Yoga, Chinese medicine, Integral Psychology, Neuro-linguistic programming and Family Constellation therapy.
A blend of lectures and group discussions will support a deeply experiential program that will include body-work, emotional exploration and meditative practices. We will create opportunities to deepen self-awareness and learn from each other’s experiences in a safe and supportive environment.
The aim is for participants to reclaim their (lost) power by learning how to access the wellspring of their inner resources and taking responsibility for the way forward through a Personal Equilibrium Practice … all of which are necessary if illness is to be transcended.

MS. NILIMA BHAT, Holistic Health and Integral Transformation Coach. After her husband, Vijay, was diagnosed with cancer, she supplemented her study of yoga with the therapeutic principles of Chinese Medicine, Psychology, creative movement, and dance. Her approach emphasizes self-understanding at many levels: physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual. She is a much sought-after speaker in India and abroad, and is currently co-authoring a book with Hong Kong University on Eastern and Western transformational practices.

MR. VIJAY BHAT, Transitions Coach. After an outstanding corporate career, Vijay has successfully re-invented himself as a practitioner of holistic health and personal growth. He now helps people (and organizations) who find themselves in transition and are challenged by the turbulence that inevitably accompanies it. His turning point came in 2001 when he was diagnosed with colon cancer, as a result of which he fundamentally re-ordered his life’s priorities and devoted himself to helping others in similar situations as his own. He qualified himself in various cutting-edge tools of psychology such as Neuro-Linguistic Programming, the Enneagram and Family Constellation Therapy. He and his wife, Nilima, set up in Aug 2004 a consultancy, ‘Roots & Wings’ which helps people navigate through major life transitions. He passed the 5-year cancer-free milestone in Dec 2006.
